WCWUNIVERSE] Randy Savage is a second generation wrestler. His
father is a member of the Wrestling Hall of Fame, Angelo Poffo.
Randy's brother is "Leaping" Lanny Poffo. The lovely
Miss Elizabeth was his wife and manager, they are now
divorced.
Other
athletic accomplishments include several years as a
professional baseball player in the minor leagues of the
Cincinatti Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Chicago White
Sox. He once finished a season, third in the league for home
runs and runs batted in. Early in his career, he wrestled in
Gulf Coast, NWA, AGPW, ICW, CWA, and WWC indies.
After
wrestling alongside of and sometimes against his father and
brother, Randy entered the World Wrestling Federation where he
was courted by all of the top managers in the organization. He
suprised everyone when he rejected their offers to sign on
with an unknown, the Lovely Miss Elizabeth. In truth,
Elizabeth was not only known to Randy, she was in fact his
wife. Through her coaching and his talent he secured the WWF
Intercontinental Championship by defeating Tito Santana for
the belt in 1986.
After
losing the Interciontinental Champioship title to Ricky
"the Dragon" Steamboat in what many contend was the
greatest wrestling match of the 1980's, Savage claimed the WWF
Heavywight title at Wrestlemania IV by defeating Ted Dibiase.
He lost the title at Wrestlmania V to Hulk Hogan. After three
years, Randy Savage regained the belt from Ric Flair, but
would lose it to him after a five month reign.
Shortly
thereafter, Randy Savage left the WWF due to contract
disputes. He became involved in an angle with the Ultimate
Warrior which ended in him being forced to leave the WWF.
Savage
debuted in WCW in 1994 after a contract dispute caused Savage
to leave the WWF. Upon his first appearance in WCW, Savage
said he didn't know whether to shake Hogan's hand or slap his
face. The two became allies, though Savage made it clear he
was after the world title which Hogan held at the time. Savage
gained his first title in a battle royal, eliminating the One
Man Gang. He held the title for one month, before losing the
title to Ric Flair. He also briefly aligned himself with Luger,
Hogan, and Sting as "The Hulkamaniacs" to battle the
Dungeon of Doom.
Savage
teamed with Sting and Lex Luger to defend against the
"Outsiders" Scott Hall and Kevin Nash at the 1996
Bash at the Beach pay-per-view. Savage, Sting and Luger would
also have to face a mystery third man who would team with the
Outsiders. The third man turned out to be Hogan himself, who
returned from hiatus from WCW to betray the organization and
his fans. Savage became one of the leading opposers of the
newly-formed NWO, and began feuding with Hogan. Savage was
attacked several times by the NWO and was repeatedly whipped,
beaten and spray-painted by Hogan, Hall, Nash and others.
As
Savage fought against the NWO, he also became embroiled in a
love triangle of sorts with his ex-wife and former manager,
Miss Elizabeth. Elizabeth would join the nWo as their valet.
Savage
took a brief hiatus then, and when he returned he attacked
Roddy Piper to assist Hogan as he joined the nWo. He re-united
with Miss Elizabeth, and began a feud with DDP & Kimberly
as a major heel.
Savage
was knocked out of action after suffering a leg injury at
WCW's Spring Stampede PPV, where he lost against DDP. After
spending weeks on crutches, Savage returned and defeated Page
at the Great American Bash. Over the course of several months,
the two faced each other numerous times in rematches until the
feud began winding down.
Savage
began to take issue with Hollywood Hogan and the nWo,
disliking the way it was run. Hogan tried to keep Savage in
the nWo, but Savage committed the worst act of betrayal at
Superbrawl VIII, hitting Hogan with a spray paint cannister
from behind and causing Hogan to lose the WCW World title to
Sting
Though
Savage's actions painted him as a traitor of sorts at the
time, Savage began showing that he wished to remain in the nWo
despite his relationship with Hogan. The two faced each other
at WCW's Uncensored '98 pay-per-view, with no winner being
determined after interference from Sting and the Disciple. He
was lated to face Sting for the WCW title at Spring Stampede,
but was actually hit by a car outside of an arena on an April
'98 Monday Nitro broadcast which threatened to take him out of
the event. The car, a red and yellow Viper, was rumored to be
driven by none other than Hogan, who actually hinted that he
was the driver on several occasions.
After
this incident, none other than Kevin Nash began showing
support for Savage, claiming that he realized that Savage saw
that the problems behind the nWo were all resulting from
Hogan's ego. Now allies, Savage became part of Nash's "Wolfpac"
faction of the New World Order as it split apart from Hogan's
reign. Despite his injuries, Savage faced Sting for the title
at Spring Stampede '98, and actually won the belt after
interference by Nash, who jackknifed Sting while the referee
was unconscious.
Bret
Hart caused the Macho Man to lose his title to Hollywood
Hogan, and the nWo split apart, with Macho Man, Kevin Nash,
Curt Hennig, Rick Rude, and Konnan as the new "Wolfpac."
However, Macho Man would miss almost all of this nWo Wolfpac,
because an injury to his knee (by the hand of Eric Bischoff)
Forced him out for the rest of 1998.
Savage
would return in early 1999 to help Ric Flair get control of
the WCW, with his new Valet, Gorgeous George. He would
disapear until April, returning to officiate a match that saw
DDP get the world title.
Macho
Man returned with a vengence and three beautiful valets,
Gorgeous George, Miss Madness '99, and Madusa. He went right
after Kevin Nash for the Heavyweight title, and he would bring
in Sid Vicious to help him. There was also a mini-feud between
Gorgeous George and Lil' Nate, Charles Robinson.
Macho
would eventually win the Heavyweight title, but only for one
night, BATB '99. He would lose it the next night to Hollywood
Hogan. Due to some missed interference, Miss Madness was
stripped of her title and fired from Team Madness. Macho soon
left WCW due to contractual disputes.
